Live And Walk In The Spirit
Text: Galatians 5:25 IBCWPM July 22, 2026
Preacher: Pastor Jose B. Cabajar
Living and walking in the Spirit is undoubtedly the best life we could live in this passing existence. However, as we tread the earthly course of life, we will come to realize that dangers surround us at every turn. It is always good for us to live according to the leading of the Holy Ghost so we may avoid the enticing trend of the world’s fashions.
We must not fall in love with this sin-darkened world, but be cautious in our deportment. The Bible warns us not love the world as written in I John 2:15-17, Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. (KJV) It is far better to love the unchanging Word of God than the things of the world that are merely passing. (See Ephesians 5:15)
(I) Live A Spirit-controlled Life Galatians 5:16
The Bible says in Galatians 5:16, This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. (KJV) A natural man will be easily led by the old man’s carnality, but a genuine believer should walk in newness of life through the leading of the Holy Ghost. Put off the old man and his deeds; and put on the new man and live in Christ-likeness for God’s honor and glory. The Apostle Paul wrote in Colossians 3:10, And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him: (KJV)
A life controlled by the Holy Spirit will surely be blest by our Almighty God. It will produce a holy life that can be an excellent vessel for the Master’s use. In II Timothy 2:21, it is written, If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work. (KJV) God is holy and He uses well-sanctified believers to carry on His ministry.
The things we love to do will reveal who really control our lives. The Bible says in Ephesians 5:18--20, And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; 19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; 20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; (KJV) A life controlled by the Spirit is a life full of God-glorifying songs of praise and thanksgiving.
-Excellent way to avoid sin-filled lifestyle Galatians 5:17-21
Undeniably, we are living in a world full of ungodly activities. For such truth, even professing believers may have the tendency to gravitate to sinful lifestyles. The Bible says in Galatians 5:17, For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. (KJV) To avoid spiritual deterioration, believers ought to live in the fear of the Lord and be controlled by the Holy Spirit.
We must be guided by the Holy Spirit so we may avoid sin-filled living. The Bible says in Galatians 5:18-21, But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. (KJV) Genuine believers are heaven-bound and it’s only proper for them not to compromise with the ways of the hell-bound people.
Perfect way to Christ-likeness Galatians 5:22-25
Living and walking in the Spirit will surely yield a good cluster of godliness. In Galatians 5:22-25, it is written, But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. (KJV) Well-spoken faith must be vindicated by the fruit of the Spirit being manifested in one’s life. Submission to the will of the Spirit will surely usher believers to Christ-likeness.
Spiritual insights to live by:
Living a Christian life entails great responsibilities to be accomplished in this hope-seeking generation. Believers must do things in the Name of Christ without self-seeking attitude, but for God’s honor and glory. The Bible says in Galatians 5:26, Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another. (KJV) Live and walk in the Spirit and be a powerful instrument in reaching the lost with the Gospel of Christ.
